Troubled Waters

Lundy Island, a granite outpost off the coast of North Devon, Britain is one of the greatest green success stories. Measures such only three and a half miles long, marks the spot where the Bristol Channel meets the white horses of the Atlantic Ocean. Its waters are full of marine life, jellyfish and sponges and out of their caves under the sea water, basking sharks patrol its reefs and rare lobster claw long called their home sandbars. These locusts are among the most fortunate of the world – Lundy is Britain's only statutory marine nature reserve and all the species here given the opportunity to prosper. Lundy's not to take areas, the first of its kind in the UK, was introduced in 2003 for groping to reverse the problems caused by overfishing. Four years later, the results have already seen. "We have seen a threefold increase in the number of locusts in areas not since its inception," said Chris Davis, a Navy officer in conversation English Nature. Now a new report from the World Wildlife Fund, along with the Marine Biological Association (MBA), has called the hottest spots biodiversity, as Lundy to define everything the UK. A total of 120 places rich in underwater activity, but susceptible to threats like overfishing and pollution have been identified. Kate Reeves, WWF says: "Our seas are becoming busier than ever due to increased human activities that threaten the marine environment, fisheries and transport for dredging and marine wind farms. "Dr Keith Hiscock, one of the authors of the report, said that the abandonment of ocean treasures Britain is a threat for the survival of our marine species, salt can be full of treasures we have yet to discover. To date, the UK has 56 Special Areas of Conservation, including the marine habitat. Not enough, says Guy Baker of the MBA. "Less than 0.001 per cent of the UK seabed has full legal protection a time when marine biodiversity is increasingly under pressure from our activities. The WWF report uses objective scientific information to prioritize the viable conservation efforts. "Mull. Proudly standing on a ridge of exposed rock on the island of Mull MacCulloch fossil tree, believed that between 50 and 60 million years. From a height of 12 meters, the tree, covered with lava during the Tertiary period, and now partly exposed above the sandy beaches of this island, Inner Hebrides. If I had to go – Impossible, of course – the view would be quite something. From the snowy summit of Ben More in Calgary in the farthest north, deer and wild goats roaming the open white heather. Calls large vultures and eagles drift out to sea where the Atlantic gray seals, dolphins, minke whales, porpoises and whales are also regularly identified. Adjacent islet of Staffa is Fingal's Cave, an underground cave coast worth writing about poetry, columns of basalt and a lot of marine life have inspired Wordsworth, Keats, Tennyson and Mendelssohn.
Dogger Bank. Dogger Bank is a large sub sandbar forms the coastline in the south North Sea glacial processes and the immersion of sea levels. A piece of living history, is part of the remains of a large land mass known as Dogger, which existed during the last glaciation and linking Britain to continental Europe. The epibenthos (animals that live at the bottom of the sea) are crabs and fish, sponges, sea anemones bryozoans. There are a lot of slow animals like snails, snails, starfish and sea urchins. Sunken warships here in many Naval battles – Jutland Falklands and Dogger Hill – and is believed to have started the trend of putting fake shipwrecks in ponds. Some of its formation is due to an earthquake in 1931, Bank under 23 km. Salcombe to Start Point. Salcombe estuary extends from the bucket and spade resort of Salcombe in the 19th century lighthouse on the rocky peak of Start Point. Full of life marina, this is an estuary of a river that has no power that emerges is a mixture of rocks and sediments from the seabed of the open coast. Salcombe's most precious organ eelgrass is a flower-bearing perennial species identified by its long, flowing, ribbon-like leaves. Seagrass beds are an important habitat for all types of creatures, including juvenile and seahorses – occasionally found off the coast of Salcombe.

Unst.

"The fire could high sun, the air be blown … but these large waves running along the outer coast, thundering and thundering by day and night, "wrote Robert Louis Stevenson from Muckle Flügge lighthouse wind the beautiful island of Unst, the northernmost part of Britain. Almost 150 years later, Unst is still a treasure island. Slim and well drained overlap in the eastern part of the island, the serpentine and gabbroic rocks, once part of an ancient ocean seabed, giving rise to a vast expanse of sea full of life. Out on the rocks in the fog in Swinn Ness, the views of the endemic birds of North America, Siberia and Central Asia are common. The island is flanked by 170m high cliffs, home to over 100,000 breeding birds, including the 25,000 pairs of puffins, rain geese and great skuas. Perhaps the most famous resident full-time Albert, a black-browed albatrosses, which – as the story – he spent his days watching the sea from a ledge in the swamps Peninsula since 1972.

Plymouth Sound.

The beautiful pink sea fan, a type of coral growing at right angles to the prevailing currents, is abundant in deep waters and coral off the coast of Plymouth. Until it was discovered in 2002, there was only one stronghold known in British waters – the Hebrides. Often, increasing the size of a plate, is a major warm-water species that the Marine Biology Association is particularly keen to protect. WWF is also trying to take steps to protect the biodiversity of the nearby Lyme Bay, following recent concerns about the harmful effects of scallop dredging in the area. Lundy Island, 10 miles off the coast of the Bristol Channel, it was stated as the poster child of Plymouth out from the fishing exclusion zone around the island to protect their varieties of lobsters, crabs, corals and sponges. Evidence from the 2004/05 monitoring program indicate that the locusts in the area appears to have increased in size and abundance.

Menai Strait

Located in the shadows Snowdonia, the Menai Strait is 22 km from a designated area of natural beauty. The coast is dotted with ancient fortresses protected, shipwrecks and lighthouses, their approach is elegant iron suspension bridge designed by Robert Stephenson. Its ecology is very diverse and led to the development of animal species. Some, like one of the many varieties of Terry, have joined forces with hydroids and Dahlia anemone, and live together, intertwined as a soft carpet. Across the Strait in Anglesey, mass Twitchers tear come glimpses of rare curlews and snipe, while seals, dolphins and otters lounge on benches. In summer, the Menai Strait has the weight of an oil spill of 8 km, destroying much of its marine life.

SATURN REEF

Saturn is a biogenic reef, or living reef, formed by the tube-building worms Sabellaria spinulosa. Located in southern North Sea, coral reefs and mounted on a sandbank, pushing very dense clumps of rock above the seabed in the territory of a set of different organs – unfortunately, including vessels fishing. While the world's best-known reefs are the coral reefs of tropical waters, only a handful of other well developed areas known spinulosa Sabellaria barrier in European waters.

Rathlin Island

Six miles off the coast of Ballycastle in Northern Ireland is Rathlin Island, a small outpost limestone shaped boot full of birdlife. Guillemots and Sanderling, along with the FTAA, Fulmar and puffins nest thousands. High cliffs give way to deep waters and rocky, dominated by sponges and algae. Waters of the north coast are in the territory of the basking shark, common seal and cucumbers Tues But Rathlin Island Marine life is increasingly threatened by pollution and the shipping route for vessels.
